In defense of epidermal coating compatibility

NS is widely known as one of the foremost manufacturers of epidermal coating systems for anthropoid robots, particularly gynoids. Over the years we have extensively refined our production methods to develop the best polymer-alloy and chromium colloidal systems available on the market. Of course, this industry is only a fraction of the size of the market for organic skins worn by humans, but as chassis designers get more daring in their mimicry of real life, the boundary between the artificial and real person is steadily eroding. With that convergence comes changes in the underlying technology at play.

In general, we have striven to avoid getting involved in compatibility disputes between body manufacturers. For the past decade, the popular Omega applier system has allowed body designers to ensure that both organic and polymer coatings look consistent on a wide variety of body types and variants. However, with the introduction of Linden Lab's Bakes-On-Mesh (BOM) technology for applying epidermis coloring, some vendors have seen the opportunity to revisit their commitment to industry standards and have sadly withdrawn partly or entirely from the Omega ecosystem, under the pretense that Omega appliers are a hindrance to BOM adoption. For many human skin designers this may be acceptable, but it is a major problem for the unique linework and shading that goes into our epidermal coatings. Vendors like these continue to offer their own isolated ecosystem of materials appliers, but like previous efforts at building such "walled gardens," they are at best a hassle to the consumer and at worst an attempt to sabotage future competition, by "locking in" designers to specifically supporting their anatomy.

Since this is primarily an issue with head vendors, starting today, NS has begun shipping the full-permissions textures for head specular and normal channels with our Liquid Metal, Metalloplastic Akagi, and Metalloplastic Theory skins series. This will trivialize the effort required for customers to produce their own appliers if necessary, or install the skins directly through facilities where made available by the vendor. Existing users can obtain access to these textures by requesting a redelivery of their purchases using an XVS Pocket Redelivery Terminal or Redelivery monad.
